When I was living in Brighton England I had a stall on the beach selling paintings and clothing that I paint birds on. When moving there in October of 2006 I became obsessed with birds! I lived right by the seaside and there are birds everywhere. I was a one minute walk from the West Pier, which is now just the remnants of a burnt down pier that thousands of starlings live on. When the sun is going down in the evening they all fly around the pier creating a mesmerizing moving cloud of birds. It's breath-taking and very impressive how they never run into each other. There are also loads of sea gulls here. When I first started becoming obsessed with birds I'd sit in my living room drawing birds and making paper sculptures of them for days, and the sea gulls flying outside my window started to notice me doing this. One of them would sit on the street lamp outside the window and watch me. I thought I was being paranoid at first, but it did this for a few days. Then I was doing some work on the floor out of site from the street lamp and I heard a tap tap tap on my window. So I looked up and there were five sea gulls on the windowsill watching me make birds. It was really eerie. I didn't shoo them off until forty-five minutes of birds watching me started to really creep me out. This has happened a few times. I think they believe I am where birds come from.
